New Secret Chicago District ~ The Slammer

Thanks to {ℳ} ßrµ†µ§ and his alert, I popped over to the game and look at that!  A new secret district for Chicago.  Welcome to the Slammer!  For the first stage, I'm seeing a 2.09 ratio as the highest available - which is better than some, but nothing exciting in my book.

To proceed, as typical, you will need half a gazillion of the consumable they have named the Jailbreaker.

Click to Send Jailbreakers!

Similar to recent secret districts there is a drop down bonus menu showing you that you will need to slave away to collect a ton of loot in order to pick up 5 attack points, followed by 5 defense points, ending with 5 skill points.

As you can see, the nifty things we get to collect this time, while providing decent stats, are nothing I'm going to expend a ton of unnecessary energy on.  I'm sure I'll pull through far enough to get the 1st bonus of the 5 attack points after that, I doubt I'll bother.

And...on that note, I'll leave you with the reminder of lessons learned in the past: do not complete ruby until you have collected all of the Jailer's Pistols, Police Caps and Night Owls you want to earn your 1, 2 and/or 3 level bonus skill points.  Once you complete ruby...you will be stuck with what you have and customer service won't be sympathetic enough to make up for the time you may invest in trying to explain to them that their "rule" on this stuff is LAME.

2x Chicago mastery starts now!

Here's another mastery event, this one for double mastery on Chicago jobs for the next 5 days, through 12/27 Pacific time. As with some of the previous mastery events, there's a special loot item that you can get from Chicago jobs during this time, the Stray Pistol. I like these mastery events, and this is another one I can make use of. Keep em coming, Zynga.

But I have to say too much of stuff is going at this time and I really don't know how those are working (or better say I didn't care to read!) .

Chicago, Chicago!

I know, I've been quiet the past few days. Hope you enjoyed the silence! It was a tough school week last week, and I got started on another Sims project, so I wasn't very interactive. I didn't want to get behind on news about the new Chicago districts, though, so I busted out my old energy account and went to work with my buddy RJ. Between the stamina jobs in Vegas and the decent ratio jobs in Chicago, I was able to pretty much keep going nonstop, but it took some "strategerie". Initially, I only set about to master the new Chicago districts, to check out ratios and XP, but then I decided to go ahead and completely finish Chicago while I was there.

Sam's Truck Shop had some of the worst ratios through all levels of mastery.

Smuggle a Shipment Back to Chicago (1.43) and Dodge the Guards (1.43) are the 'best' jobs to be had in that District with 1.43 ratios, which is pretty bad.

The Main Street Speakeasy has some better ratios. Secure Hooch to Sell in Your Joint (2.14) is the best job. 2.14 is a pretty good ratio. There is also a 2.13 ratio job, Case Warehouses on the North Side (2.13).

After the nicer ratios of the Main Street Speakeasy, The Old Warehouse's ratios are kind of disappointing. In this district at ruby-level, the best ratio is 1.97 with the job Collect Income From Your Establishments.

In the Ballot Box Distillery's ruby level ensemble, you'll again find more disappointing ratios. And, the jobs take a lot of energy!

The best job there is the last one in the district, Frame Mayor in a Political Scandal with 1.87. Kinda shabby, ratio-wise, but due to the high energy cost, the proportionately-higher XP payouts can be handy when you're close to leveling.

Lakeside Docks has some so-so ratios. Its 3 best jobs, Travel South to the Caribbean, Monitor Coast Guard Patrols, and Ferry Customers Across the Rum Line all offer a 1.96 ratio.

The last district, Crosstown Showdown, at first appears a decent ratio of 2.08 on the job Storm Into a North Side Gang Brewery. But.

That job requires Mediators. So not such a good deal, after all. So probably the 'best' job in that District is Plan A Decisive Blow Against the North Siders, with 1.99.

Note that your ratios may very slightly from mine, depending on differences in our Top Mafia. However, those will still probably shake out to be the best jobs, ratio-wise.

Daily Nerf Point

Yeah....they freakin' went and nerfed our daily free points, it looks like. I'm at a loss to explain why on earth Zynga thinks any of us give a crap about a few clams. If you do...here 'tis:
It takes clams to make it in Chicago, Mafia Wars' newest city. Here's 5 to 12 of them for being a fan! http://zyn.ga/B5U <-- Claim your FREE CLAMS!

Robbing Boards Open in Chicago

Robbing boards are now available for the clearing in Chicago!

For now all I see are Truck Shops, and I hear the ratio is not so hot.

Time to upgrade those properties, ya think?

Giving is receiving.

da Real McCoy

The Real McCoy, is 1 of 6 Chicago Achievements and "Earned by fully upgrading the Speakeasy property in Chicago". So you start building a multi-story building that magically transforms to a riverboat steamer on its final stage. That makes senses, not!

The achievement pop-up and accompanying +1 skill point should appear as soon as you finish the final upgrade.

There are 9 stages and will require a total of 81 of each part.
Part stage 123456789
Union Worker1357911131517
1357911131517
1357911131517
1357911131517
1357911131517

Remember parts drop from jobs but drop rate is so abysmal it's hardly noticeable, you can beg for up to 5 of one part daily, and are still available from gifting, where you can either click on gift links from your Feed or bookmark Dem Chicago Property Parts blog post to send out as free gifts.

TIP 1: completely build the Speakeasy first for the skill point and achievement then the Warehouse for the item crafting and finally the Truck Stop. Or ignore the Truck Stop as the cash generated there is not worth the parts which can be saved for later.

TIP 2: even if you manage to finish all 3 properties or 2 and ignored the Truck Stop, continue to collect at least 162 more of each part as there are still 2 as yet unrevealed properties.

Tip 2, is in light of the fact that this is the first time since Italy, when for a very brief 2 weeks or so all property parts were giftable. If you don't take advantage of that now then consider they could turn off gifting any or all of the total 5 Chicago parts **at any time** they wish and then you will be stuck with begging for your daily 5 parts which would lengthen the time to build out the last 2 unknown Chicago properties.

You can always check your progress from the in-game Inventory screen using the following Filter settings:

Loot Upgrades, Mafia Wars 3-Year Anniversary Upgraded Classics

I guess they finally figured out that we didn't care for the old bullet-proof vests and tactical shotguns :0) I'm dubious about calling any of those items "classic", though. While the upgraded stats will come in handy for some, these are still rather sub-par... Anyway, also notice they indicate some Chicago loot will be upgraded as well.

Mafia Wars is celebrating its 3-year anniversary by giving away some cool throwback gifts! Play Mafia Wars everyday to receive a free classic item that has stood the test of time in Mafia Wars. We've already given away some of the originals, but we'll be switching to updated and upgraded versions today, so come back to see the old made new:

Upgraded Classic: Pair Of Pet Tigers

(87/68)

In other loot news, some rare Chicago items are about to receive an upgrade as well, with stats more deserving of items used by original gangsters.

Are You Serious, Zynga? A Tactical Shotgun?

This is really ridiculous. I could say more, but I know I'm preaching to the choir. Who at Zynga had this bright idea to give us complete and utter garbage? A Tactical Shotgun? For real, Zynga? ::facepalm:: This is more likely to make us question why the hel1 we're still playing!

I think Frances Andrews said it best: "If we're lucky, brass knuckles tomorrow!"

However, let me clarify for Zynga's sake, Frances is being completely sarcastic :0)

Playing Catch-up on Mafia Wars

It's amazing how much crap Zynga has thrown at us over the last few days. I can barely keep up with everything they throw at us on a good day! I had a real life situation explode in my lap earlier this week, and haven't been able to pay much attention the past few days, looking at the game now is downright discouraging.

Wednesday we noticed Chicago was added to our travel menu. It's pretty safe to assume now that Chicago is coming soon, very soon, much sooner than the 2 more months we'd be waiting if we were going by their first estimated release date.

Traveling to Chicago will only get you this screen for the moment. Nothing much of interest there. We'll have a bootlegging operation, presumably a property of some sort. And crew - most likely reminiscent of the Brazil crew.

Yesterday we saw the introduction of another new property, the Venetian Condo, which meant, more begging. More link spamming. Fortunately, we are still able to create links for the property parts, saving us quite a bit of hassle and waiting and frustration.

Hey! Where's my Private Zoo? <-- I saw lots of questions like that in the news feed yesterday.

The answer to that question is just below your shown properties. "Select 5 properties that you would like to make active (this will appear on your property list)."

Your first thought is probably that you got Zynga'd, being limited to 5 properties. But look closer and you'll see you can change the selection of which 5 properties are showing. Do all your building, then drop down under the properties, uncheck one that's active, and make your 'hidden' property active.

After doing that, a Save Changes button will appear, and you must click that. Afterward, your 6th constructable property will show up and you can build from it as well.

Then yesterday we got another one of those Collect 7 loot drop events. They tried to make these events too fancy; they were much simpler and less intrusive when we had these types of events two years ago. The limits and disappearing loots from the new style of Collect 7 loot drop events is just annoying. I'd do my best to ignore it but it's in my face every time I go to my Mafia Wars home page.

In fact, the only thing at all noteworthy of the Henchmen Urban Agents event was this tidbit of news that we'll be getting another class of equipment called Henchmen. I'd almost bet money that comes out next week with Chicago.

Prepare yourself for Henchmen, ***coming soon, the newest item category in Mafia Wars!*** Help can be had from the most unlikely people, including the local Cab Driver, Garbage Man or Bartender. Gather these 'Urban Agents' to strengthen your Mafia and ultimately gain the Mastery item, the Cocktail Waitress, if you collect all seven.
Oh boy. Something else to keep up with.

Now there's this that several people are noticing. Just what Battle Is On? I honestly don't know, but I'm speculating that this may be about the Family mock wars that Jeff AKA Month has been working on.

And with all of this crap hitting the game, don't you know some stuff got borked? As in, seriously, majorly borked. A bad glitch allowed you to remove members from OTHER Families, and this information was unfortunately published, likely leading to malicious actions on the part of some. The hole was quickly patched, but if you find that your Family is missing members since yesterday and you don't know why, you should definitely contact customer support ASAP.

Also, last night brought yet another nerfing to Power Packs. Now you can no longer use both an energy pack and a power pack. It's one or the other, every 8 hours. But - we again get 125% stamina from the Power Packs, rather than just 50%. I'm really sick of their retarded "experiments".

What morass will today bring? I'm sure Zynga will show us soon.
