Family Boss Fight missing 9/13

From the Zyngon Capitol:
Many users are experiencing an issue where the family boss has disappeared and are currently unable to collect the reward.

The cause of this issue is known and the studio is already working swiftly to fix the problem.

Please give us a little while to resolve the bug and get your family boss fight back up and running.
Thanks Vince for finding this.

Silverio Fallaci

Most of us have been waiting around all day for the stupid game to finish 'calculating the results', and now all of the sudden, there's a NEW boss in town: Silverio Fallaci. Your Mafia Wars Family might still have Jeff The Knife...or you might have Silverio Fallaci. Or, you might have both, like [MIA] and a few other families have!

ETA...it seems to be account-specific and not family-specific as to who has which or both family boss fights.

Edited again to add...now I don't even have a Bosses tab any more, and others are reporting that both family boss fights have now disappeared from their accounts as well.

Screen Shots courtesy of Jason w/[M.P.R]
Jason's peeps over at [M.P.R] also have both family boss fights active, and can fight both Jeff The Knife and Silverio Fallaci.

Our Mistyfied redtag Family only has the Silverio Fallaci family boss fight - but...apparently he took over calculating our win results from our last go-round with Jeff The Knife.
The boss has been slain! Please wait a few minutes while we calculate the results!
::valley girl voice::...that was like, hours ago.

Ice Season 07 ending soon

You still have a little while longer to get ices in for the current Ice Season 07. How far did you get? I should easily make Diamond 3 this time, but I wanted Diamond 5. I was distracted by the Family boss fight with Jeff The Knife for a few days and that put me off track. Damn you Jeff :-/

Family Boss Fight rewards updated

When the Family Boss Fight first rolled out and our Mistyfied redtag group defeated Jeff The Knife for the first time, I really thought that the whole experience was a let-down. Particularly, it seemed a lot of work for just one loot item.

That part was changed today - all Family members will now receive 4 loot items for defeating the boss. That makes it a bit more interesting. Truth is, my opinion has really changed about these Family boss fights. They do take a little coordination, but that's fun. And the XP for stamina attacks is pretty good if you can keep down both Boss Rage and your Fatigue.

You'll notice the loot rewards table has been expanded for boss fight rewards as well. For Rare and Uncommon loot reward items, you even need to scroll to see them all.

Here are the other Rare items.

And those are the last 4 of the uncommon items.

Mafia Wars Live recap(ish)

Today's Ustream broadcast of Mafia Wars Live was the first since Nate left Zynga :(

Ben AKA Don Perogi is the new guy, and was accompanied by Jeff AKA Month, who we've seen before on episodes of Mafia Wars Live. Unfortunately, the broadcast was fraught with issues from start to finish. The sound was choppy and cut in and out, and I quite honestly can't be sure of anything that I DID hear!
  • They talked about "Facebook Pinning" but I couldn't hear what they said about it.
  • The "amazing" sale was mentioned.
  • Oh - Jeffrey did confirm that he was the model for Jeff The Knife -- I knew it!! I like him.
  • The question about which Collector's Edition items will include skill points is one that I've personally harrassed multiple Zyngons about, so it was quite frustrating to not be able to hear what they were saying about this. Although I'm pretty sure I heard that Friday's item, the Painted Wolf, would include skill points. Word.
Even though I've taken my sweet time about getting this post out, the embed code for this broadcast still hasn't been made available. And I kinda doubt it will be, honestly :D

Family Boss Fight Letdown

A while ago, our Mistyfied redtag group ground out Jeff The Knife the first time. This came out late last night, which wasn't a good time for a lot of us. I got on this morning and Le Trainspotter had done a great summary for our Family which answered most of my initial questions, and myself and several of us picked up the line throughout the day to wear Jeff down.

The real secret was coordination, and once we picked up the Flow, it was only a matter of  hours before Jeff went down. Considering one of the things we loved about the old boss fights was collaboration and coordination, I will say that Zynga did a good job implementing that here.

We started chewing through him really fast and had worked up some momentum, so it was a bit disappointing when we realized we only got one loot item each. Granted, the loot item doesn't suck, but that was HOURS of effort from a lot of different Family members.

It seems the reward system will work similar to operation rewards. Only you get fewer rewards. Overall is it worth that? I dunno, I'm dubious.

It's fun enough that we'll probably work at it here and there, but most of us agree that the lack of decent rewards detracts from the fun of it in light of the effort we put in. I think we're going to go back to focusing on family progress.

Sue T. said there should be some good XP rewards, such as with the Family mission, and I agree with that idea.

Fun, yes, but a rather anticlimactic letdown in the end.

some Epic Family Boss Fight tips for Jeff The Knife

If you aren't even sure how to join your Family's boss fight, just click on the new Bosses tab, and then click the Fight button that appears on the right.

Or, click the Join The Fight button on your Mafia Wars home page banner - that will also take you to the Bosses tab.

There is a secret to all this, and it really does take coordination with your Family to figure it out. Firstly you need a balance of Arsonists and Racketeers to bring down Boss Rage and Fatigue regularly. Bruisers do their part, but they seem to be more common than Arsonists and Racketeers, and the imbalance can become a problem.

Asking for help with boosts and buffs constantly isn't necessary either. I finally figured that out :D When Boss Rage is low, it doesn't matter if you're out of Rage buffs, because you only need those when rage gets to be more than a few hundred.

I strongly suggest keeping a separate tab up for your Family's boss fight. Watch for help requests and fulfill them as you're able and as the Boss Rage meter requires it.

Jeff The Knife: before joining the fight

If you aren't sure which role to pick for your Epic Family Boss Fight with Jeff The Knife - don't guess, ASK. Ask your family if you aren't sure! These roles will not help YOU. As Le Trainspotter put it:
If the Roles are NOT balanced with enough people in each Role then it will actually hinder the whole group.
Right now our Family has a lot of Bruisers, and we've discovered we need more Arsonists and Racketeers. Definitely check with your family to see what's needed before joining the fight! This one isn't just about boss fight combos, consumables, and ammo.

Jeff The Knife: Family Boss Fight Combos

There are 4 combos. To my knowledge these are the same for every family, but let me know if your family has different boss fight combos from these.

Yellow boss fight combo #1, Rifle Round, Sucker Punch, Crowbar Swing, Rifle Round

Mafia Wars Epic Family Boss Fight - Jeff The Knife

You now have a new Bosses tab, right between the Inventory and Marketplace.

Um, I'm not sure I like the sound of this. I really hated those stupid job heat meters that came with those mini city challenges, and a Boss Rage Meter and a Fatigue Meter sound even less to my liking. The more Rage a boss gains, the less damage they'll take from your group's attacks. The higher your Fatigue, the more Stamina you spend on each attack. Oh boy, so THIS is how they returned stamina boss fights to us? Ugh.

Moving on. Now we see this Jeff The Knife character. I'm imagining he was based on Jeff AKA Month, one of the Zyngons who works on these features and also comes on Mafia Wars Live quite often. If that's the case, I can find it in my heart to like Jeff The Knife a little bit :0)

Holy cow, look at that health meter!

It says "Defeat the boss to win these awesome prizes" -- does that mean each Family member earns all of these upon defeating the boss? Hmm.

Four grand prizes, all with nice phat stats.

Going into the boss fight, you'll need to choose your "role". I'm not sure I like having to make this decision without knowing what these roles entail.

Oh Hai! We did get clues, when we first saw this boss fight.

Bruisers do double damage, Arsonists help reduce Boss Rage, and Racketeers can reset your Fatigue Meter. I assume this is what benefit we will provide to our Family members.

Hover your mouse over the role titles, and you will also see the descriptions there.

I chose to be an Arsonist, and landed here. As you can see along the top of the Boss Fight pane, there are spots where you can ask for and activate Family members of a certain role to help you do your part in the boss fight. Those appear to operate in much the same way as Brazil crew does.

As per usual, there will be boss fight combos to find and keep track of.

When I clicked to ask for those positions to be filled, I'm not sure where exactly I asked to, but I guess I have to wait until more Family members join the fight.

You can join the fight from the Family Boss Fight banner on your Mafia Wars home page.

Once you join the fight, you'll see other family members who have joined the fight. Looks like Bill B. is kicking our butts!

You can ask for ammo via your news feed.

I'm off to explore some more!

Epic Family Boss Fights

Cerulean Master recently posted this on the forums:
We're excited to announce your family will soon be facing some epic bosses, starting with Jeff The Knife. Usually, you are able to complete the Boss Fights on your own, but this time, it will take the collaborative strength of your family to defeat them! Hop on your Thai Centipede and pull your Laser Squirrel out because this will be no easy feat.
So we don't really know what "soon" is, but we do know that a bunch of new inventory items were added to our inventory -- and then pulled again. I KNOW it was there, but *poof* now it's not.

That's almost 30 items there. I look to see them back in inventory in the near future, along with a boring, Raven-like boss fight for us to get out of the way.
