Merry Christmas from Misty(fied)

Whatever your faith, and wherever you are in the world, I wish you a Merry Christmas. For me, it's not about religion. Christmas is, for me, about the holiday, the sentiment, about giving, and about Family; the important things. I think it means something different for everyone. My husband just lost his job, but I can still find room in my heart to be happy for what I have and for those around me. I wish you the same peace.

Tis the season to be jolly. Tis the season to be glad, the season of goodwill, a time of appreciation. I appreciate each and every fan of our page, every reader of our blog, every follower of my Mafia Wars rants, even those who don't agree. I appreciate every Mistyfied admin and all they do, seen and unseen. I appreciate every Family  member, their participation and contributions. Both admins and Family members contribute quite a bit, and there is a great team backing this page directly and indirectly.

Mistyfied has been around since early 2010, and we hope to see you 2012.

Holiday Treasure Hunt: Christmas Ornaments 'unlocked'

I just noticed that the third item in the Holiday Treasure Hunt, Christmas Ornaments, is now dropping. These must unlock late at night. Then again, this Treasure Hunt thing is something I've only been playing passively.

At first it seemed this would be a lot of work, but that's the good thing about it, it doesn't interfere with how you play the game, since the items drop from jobs and fighting and robbing. There is a good chance of unwrapping a skill point from the board, which is always good.

Dearly Departed mission #4: The New Order

The New Order is mission #4 in the Dearly Departed mission event for Mafia Wars. I shoulda-woulda-coulda had this one finished quite quickly, but you know how intrusive that Real Life thing can get sometimes :D I think when I started this one I was pretty low on stamina, and so it slipped off my radar.

You won't need a huge amount of stamina though to get this one done. Clearing 4 robbing boards can be done in any city, so if you're low on stammy, flip through the cities and find boards with lower stamina costs. Winning 35 fights in Italy isn't so bad either. Unless you get stuck waiting on stamina to replenish like I did, probably the most waiting you will have to do is waiting for your mafia to answer requests for Documents.

limited time item: Camo Ammo Belt

A little while ago I remembered to do my property builds, and discovered there's a new limited time item that you can build in the Armory. Its highest stat is 82 attack, which is really...not that great. And you have to beg for a special part as per usual, Camouflage in this case. You won't find that on the Free Gifts page (at least not yet), but you can find the Ask and Send options for this special item from Union Hall on your Mafia Wars home page.

City of Traverse is now available--but you have to PAY

Wow, that is LOW. For the past few days now we've been seeing a countdown timer under the heading of Additional Districts in Chicago indicating that City of Traverse was becoming available again soon. That timer just ran down, and instead of finding City of Traverse available, you find you have to PAY to get in. City of Traverse was initially released on November 1st, as a secret district. I shouldn't be surprised that after the hype, we now are required to pay 35 reward points if we want access.


No thanks, I'll pass. That's really crappy of you, Zynga.

Edit, some are saying it's charging them 25 RPs. It may have something to do with whether the district was previously mastered, I'm not sure. I don't plan on paying, either way. 

If you unlock it, you'll have 12 days to play this district, per Mike.

Dearly Departed mission #3: Eulogy

This is the third mission in the Dearly Departed mission event in Mafia Wars, and I was surprised to find one of my objectives already fulfilled. I did a few jobs in Brazil recently due to the recent 3x Brazil mastery event, but Belem, where the job INTIMIDATE THE LOCAL CRIME RING is located, has been long mastered. I don't know if this was a mistake or on purpose, but I'm darn glad not to have to do that job 40 more times!

Getting support from your Mafia should (hopefully) be fairly easy. You'll have to send requests, unfortunately, and wait for people to answer them, but you can also work towards this objective by answering support requests in your ZMC. Unfortunately you can't tell which crew member request in your ZMC is for what >.<

It appears you DO need to rob in Brazil to complete the robbing portion of this mission, no shortcuts. And yes, you do have to WIN the robbing attempt for it to count for this mission.

new Zynga gimmick: "Collectable Stat Cards"

There's a new money-grubbing gimmick to be found on your Mafia Wars home page banner. This is apparently one of the ways that Zynga thinks it can double its paying customers. I've got news for them. They can't double paying customers out of the existing customer base, they need to keep both existing customer and find new ones, and the only way they can do that is get their act together and start giving a damn about the players. If I sound bitter, so be it. It's been a bad day and suffice it say, my purse strings got quite a bit tighter.

These images were posted by some peeps in the Mafia Wars Gods group. I'm saving my 60 RPs for the next round of skill point reallocation, but I'm told the going rate is 1 "card" for 15 RPs and 3 cards for 42 RPs. If you glance at the images, it appears you can get anywhere from 3 to 7 skill points in various categories per card. I'm betting it evens out on the lower end of the scale.

2x Chicago mastery starts now!

Here's another mastery event, this one for double mastery on Chicago jobs for the next 5 days, through 12/27 Pacific time. As with some of the previous mastery events, there's a special loot item that you can get from Chicago jobs during this time, the Stray Pistol. I like these mastery events, and this is another one I can make use of. Keep em coming, Zynga.

Holiday Treasure Hunt: Candy Canes 'unlocked'

The Holiday Treasure Hunt has started dropping the second item, Candy Canes, now. They seem to be dropping at a better rate than the wreaths ever did, so hopefully I do better with these.

The official Mafia Wars blog made a follow-up post to the announcement in the game that contract missions will soon be going away. Of note, they explain exactly which missions are contract missions, which some of us were curious about:

Contract Missions are designated by the red crosshaired scope icon and now feature a timer, in their top right corner, that counts down to their completion deadline:If there are any Contract Missions you have yet to finish, you'll want to wrap those up before they disappear at 6:00am (Pacific Time) on Thursday, December 29th.

So the daily Family missions, the series of city-specific missions, and mission events aren't going away. 

skill point reallocation 12-22

I see Skill Point Reallocation going on in the Mafia Wars Marketplace, better grab it! I don't think it's been around for several days and many of us were wondering when we'd see it again. It would be nice if Zynga could figure out a schedule for offering it on a more regular basis.
