End Of Days mission event, mission #2: In The Beginning
Now that Zynga has "retuned" this mission event in order for it to be completable, I'm finally on the second mission in the End Of Days mission event for Mafia Wars, which is called In The Beginning. I'm right away not thrilled with the exorbitant energy costs of this retuned mission, but that's not wholly out of the ordinary so I'm game to give it a try.
The first objective is to 0/12 ACTIVATE 12 CREW MEMBERS IN BRAZIL. Well, you're going to have to wait at least 8 hours to complete this one, as you can only activate up to 8 crew members at one time.
Remember to GO SLOW when activating crew members, because these missions are notorious for not counting all activations otherwise. As you can see above, it still missed 2 of mine, even though I thought I was clicking slow enough. I should be ok as long as I go even slower in 8 more hours when I can activate more crew members to finish this objective.
I did run into this little graphical glitch, which freaked me out at first. The next time I entered the game, it didn't look like I had any crew members activated, even though I had just activated all of them not 5 minutes previously. The crew members are still there though, and this didn't affect the activations already counted for.
For the next objective, 0/40 ROB 40 TIMES IN BRAZIL, things are relatively straightforward but I still ran into some problems. Mafia Wars does count all successful robbing attempts won when you use Rob Squads. Or it's supposed to. The problem I encountered was that it didn't count two of my robbing boards that I cleared in Brazil, nor did it seem to be a cache or reloading issue. They just weren't counted. It wasn't a huge deal for me as I had enough stamina to cover it, but you may have to contact Customer Support if you encounter the same.
This is the part I'm still grumbly about. I've got to do this already-mastered job 30 more times? And at 675 energy a pop that's going to shake out to around 20,000 energy spent on this one freakin' objective. Good thing I still have an 8 hour wait for the crew members, but this one may take even longer. We'll see.

END OF DAYS: Mission Impossible becomes Mission Possible
You may now actually be able to complete the Mission Impossible End Of Days mission event in Mafia Wars!
I first noticed this on the mission bar ↑ Instead of building 18 items from your Speakeasy, it now says 6.
I found this on the forums:
Today we retuned our quest event to reduce the difficulty of some tasks that were set to be more difficult than intended. We made these changes quickly so that players would have enough time to complete the new mission tasks. We would also like to assure those who spent RP to complete any mission tasks will have those RP refunded next week.
Thanks,
The Mafia Wars Team
Unintended? :D Well, I'm very glad that this change has been made. I hope the changes are significant enough that we can still get this done despite the nearly 2 days now lost. And for those that spent RPs trying to get the original missions done, refunds may be imminent. That doesn't happen often, and that, to me, makes this gesture sincere.
Here's what the first mission, Alpha, looked like before.
Here's what it looks like now. That's the difference between one day of building items and nearly three days of building items. (The difference in XP rewards are just because the screen shots were taken from different accounts, there has been no change in the XP rewards.)
I'm glad this has taken place, I was very unhappy; for a long time, I did not enjoy and did not participate in the mission events. The past few mission events however, I've started doing the missions and completing the mission events. It would have sucked to 'lose' this feature so soon after I started enjoying it.

The Don's Gift Returns
If you haven't noticed your news feed yet, you will soon. It looks like The Don's Gift has returned, albeit with nothing new. The Tibetan Sand Fox can again be found on your Mafia Wars home page. You can collect 2 of these by clicking on posts from friends in your news feed, and you'll get 3 more when people click on the post you generate from the banner or the Free Gifts page. If they are repeating/continuing this event, we may see a few more of The Don's Gift items in the near future.

MISSION IMPOSSIBLE, END OF DAYS: impossible to complete, unless of course you PAY
Seriously, don't bother. It looks like you can NOT complete the End Of Days Mission Event in Mafia Wars without paying and paying dearly to do so. It's literally impossible. After looking at some of the screen shots posted by other players who were for some reason willing to actually pay to get this done, I'm guesstimating it would take almost 19 days to complete the wars and building and collecting of properties alone--that's not even counting some of the objectives that require large amounts of energy wasted on doing some specific job over and over again, which would likely result in waiting for energy to refill for most of us. And that's IF you declare war, build, and collect exactly at the time you're able to do so. Most highly-engaged, several-times-a-day players cannot meet that, so for those of us who play normally, you're looking at more like 26 days by my guesstimate--and again that's only for the parts involving wars, building from properties, and collecting from properties. There's less than 14 days in which to do this thing. My guesstimates may be off by a day or two here and there, but the conclusion is pretty obvious.
The only way this can be saved is if somehow the objectives in upcoming missions will count previous property collections and builds, and wars declared and won, which I doubt will be the case. I'd be surprised. I will play through the first few missions to be sure though.
If this turns out to be truly impossible, I think Zynga can kiss goodbye several thousand more players, and I might just be one of them. This game is already not worth paying much if anything for, and this mission event makes it look like they're trying to make this one of the most expensive games out there. At this rate it costs you more than other BETTER subscription games available, and I'm sick of all this BUY BUY BUY being shoved down our throats. That's poor business practice, if that's how they think they can "double paying customers".

End of Days mission event, mission #1: Alpha
For the first mission in the End Of Days mission event in Mafia Wars, fittingly called Alpha, the first objective is going to take the longest to complete. You can build 6 items from your Speakeasy every 18 hours, so in other words, almost 3 days for this first mission? Not a great way to kick if off, Zynga, geez :(
Anyhoo, the other two objectives are pretty easy by comparison. You can get 20 crew members either by sending requests, or answering requests for the same from your mafia members. Fighting 100 times in Chicago means just that--basically making any attack off the fight list in Chicago will fulfill this objective. Doesn't matter if the opponent is already iced, doesn't even matter if you lose the fight, it counts. If you find a healthy opponent, you could even accomplish that on one target!

NEW MISSION EVENT: End of Days
A new mission event hit the Mafia Wars home page a few minutes ago. It's called End Of Days, and the Slasher is its grand prize, which was just added to the Mafia Wars inventory today. You'll have 2 weeks to complete it, and this one will also include another Bonus Mission.

Stay tuned for more info as we work our way through the missions.

Family Property Updates
The official Mafia Wars blog has posted some more information about the Artillery Station for the Family Properties in Mafia Wars. Most of this we already knew or have figured out, but there's a point of two worth reading:
Mobsters,
We've edited the in-game explantion of Family Properties for clarity and to include some tweaks (in bold italics below) we've since made to the feature:
Your Family Property is a property shared by your family. It provides a bonus stat to the entire family. The higher the level of your Family Property, the higher the bonus stat received by your family. The bonus stat is calculated based on the level of your property and the damage status, so ensure that you upgrade and repair your property frequently in order to earn the highest bonus stat possible.
You can upgrade your property by using consumable parts. Your property can be upgraded up to a maximum of Level 10. If damaged, you will need to repair your property before you can upgrade it.
The defense of your property is determined by the items allocated to your property by the individual members of your family. Each member can contribute 5 items per property, but these will be permanently removed from one's Inventory, so choose wisely. Both the attack and the defense stats of these items count towards the defense of your property. Items of all classes may be contributed, excluding limited or restricted items.
Different combinations could earn special bonuses.
Once damaged, the health of your property regenerates over time. You can also repair your property by using consumable parts. Remember, you can only upgrade your property once it is fully repaired, so make sure that you repair any damage to your property immediately.
You and each member of your family can obtain the following maximum number of consumable parts per day to repair/upgrade your property:
– 20 parts from requests
– 20 parts from feeds (a feed can be published every 6 hours)
– 60 parts from successfully robbing rival properties
You can rob your rivals' Family Properties as you stand to win repair/upgrade consumable parts. The damage dealt to a rival property is determined by two factors – the strength of the player attacking the property and the defense strength of the property being attacked.

Zynga player survey: The Ice Queen
Yep. Another Zynga survey, this one on the latest Family Boss Fight boss, The Ice Queen. Some players said they noticed a change with this boss by way of the amount of damage incurred. Don't like that? Tell Zynga in their survey HERE.

new property and mission loot items added
A whole bunch of loot items have been added to the Mafia Wars inventory, since I last checked inventory around 10PM last night.
There is one item added "from Gifting", the Chinese Dragon. It has decent stats, at 105/132.
Chinese Dragon (A:105 D:132) from Gifting
There are also several mission loot items added--new mission event?
Phosphorescent Harness (A:125 D:83) from Mission
Snow Goggles (A:84 D:124) from Mission
Grill (A:124 D:86) from Mission
Liquid Metal (A:80 D:128) from Mission
Turkey Buzzard (A:82 D:126) from Mission
Slasher (A:165 D:97) from Mission
More Marketplace items...which I never buy.
Cotton-Top Tamarin (A:160 D:92) from Marketplace
Silo Suit (A:91 D:160) from Marketplace
Viking Bandolier (A:160 D:91) from Marketplace
Scion Heavy Machine (A:92 D:160) from Marketplace
Now these items I found interesting! New property items, several of them, and clearly these are staggered for different levels of mastery. The Poison Dagger and Death From Afar have 3 levels of mastery, as do the Candy Dandy and Prune Juice, while the Corner Shot and Sky Hopper have 4, and the Assassin and Hop Chopper have five levels of mastery. Even higher than Ruby, these items go to Emerald mastery. My first guess is some of these are for another limited time property, but clearly there is something new and different coming our way soon, property-wise. New levels to existing properties? Some of those items have stars as though there were some mastery idea behind them. I guess we will very soon find out...I just hope Zynga doesn't dump all this on us at once.
