We'd Like to Hear From you 6/14

Zynga & Mafia Wars would like to hear from you!

When I got online this evening a nice new Pop-Up reared it's head.
Zynga wants to hear from us again. When I finished this little part, another Pop-up!

I'm American, I *love* surveys that ask my opinion and I'm more than glad to give it, so let's have MORE!

Right off the bat I am worried that Zynga has decided to do away with Families. All of these questions are about the Family things.

I don't know about you but I really *do* *love* all the family things we do. Battles, Boss Fights, Property, and yeah when is anything going to happen with the third family property? I ask CS every time I talk to them and get the same stale answer "We're working on it" yeah right.

On the very last part where there is a blank space to type in, I asked them to please bring back the family chat so I can help my family in wars, and also about the third family property (again).

Family Filter removed from Free Gifts screen

On July 12th, we noticed that a Family filter had been added to the screen from which we send Free Gifts. I thought it was "nifty", and have occasionally made use of that filter when sending free gifts.

Cruising around over at Get Satisfaction this afternoon, I ran across a post questioning why the Family filter was removed. I checked my account, and I don't see it anymore either.

This is what it used to look like. I think Zynga should add that back :-/

Families: 100 member limit "under consideration"

Since long before the initial release of the Family module, Zynga has known that the limit of 100 members for a redtag Family group was far too low. A few weeks prior to the release, some members of PAC were given a preview of the module and given the chance to air our ideas and concerns with a few members of the development team. The 100 member limit was one of the first things several of us pointed out as a problem.

What did Zynga do? Release it with a 100 member limit.

The first release included a few members of PAC who wanted a redtag and several existing clan leaders. Who better to test out a Family feature than families? To their credit, I liked how Zynga handled that rollout, but I digress. From these initial testers, the feedback was immediate: 100 members is way too low.

We were led to believe that it was a temporary condition, because the module was so new. It was pointed out that it's easier to test bugs in smaller groups. So we waited.

The next we heard was that they were considering 'other ideas'. What's with that? What other ideas can they really have about something as simple as raising the cap on how many members a Family can hold?

It's also been implied that the needed funding to implement such a change was the problem, and that there were no short-term solutions in sight as far as the 100 member Family limit went.

Jason Roberts, Godfather of [M.P.R.], started a Getsatisfaction.com thread about it recently, and has been diligently circulating the link for that thread. It's gotten several "Me Too"s and likes, and many comments in agreement. Zynga has marked the thread now as "Under Consideration".

That's a step in the right direction, but really - how much feedback does it really take to get Zynga's attention finally? How much more feedback will it take to finally get it done? If funding is an issue, then Zynga needs to reallocate some of its projects. We don't care about new events, we want stuff fixed. Allocate your funding for manpower to THOSE projects.

Jason's thread isn't even the first one on Get Satisfaction. I found several, not surprisingly.

Like this one. It was marked as Answered, but it wasn't answered. All that was said was that it was turned in to the nebulous "team" at Zynga, and that there were some "limitations" they were trying to work around.

Or this one. This Family member was waiting to get into her Family but couldn't because of the 100 member limitation. It was marked as Answered, but again, it wasn't answered. She was only told that her group would have to remove someone in order to accommodate her. That's kinda crappy.

Yep. Another one. This quote was given by way of 'answer':
"There are many reasons why we decided on having a 100 member limit. A lot of work is being done to make sure this is causing people as little grief as possible. Eventually we would like to provide ways for larger Families to split into several 100 person ‘divisions’ and then use some kind of alliance functionality to be part of the same larger group. But as to when this will happen, I’m not sure. We really do understand your frustration."
Oh yeah, that's one of their 'ideas' for expanding Families. Divisions. But still 100 members, separate from others in their actual family. That might work for a handful of clans who are set up that way, but the vast majority of families and clans and groups are NOT going to be compatible with that setup. No way. Just increase the freaking limit.

No one even bothered to answer this poor player.

Do you ever feel like we're banging our heads into a brick wall here??

New Family Features

Some updates from the Mafia Wars blog (most of which we already know):

GF/GMs and Underbosses can now customize the 'title' of any Family member. I've already seen some fun variations in my own group :P

Of course, the Family filter when sending Free Gifts.

The number of members is now shown on the Families tab.

Titles will show up on the Fight List.

You now have the ability to add a player to your FAMILY rival list.

FIXED: unable to remove Family members

Several family leaders will be relieved to know that they should now be able to remove family members. And this time they should stay gone! If for some reason group leaders still cannot kick out and remove members, a workaround that has worked for most is to log into the game from mafiawars.com and remove the member from there.

Families: early release CLOSED

The sign-up for clan leaders to participate in pre-release of the Families module has been closed. Zynga has the list, and those clan leaders who signed up for early release should start looking for the Families module under the My Mafia tab in your Mafia War game. General release be will taking place tonight, provided there are no hold-ups.

Familes: more on slow rollout, Family requests, and Family titles/positions

I've been looking at the new Families tab a bit more today.  Remember that this is a very limited roll-out right now. It was first released to a few players very late last night, including some members of PAC and a handful of clan/family heads/leaders. Today, Zynga is still working to get all of that group up and running, and understandably there have been some early issues that have held things up some. Known heads of families will likely be added first as the feature continues to roll out, to reduce any risk of "tag stealing".

This morning I found I had some requests waiting for me in my ZMC from my friends and admins to join my "clan". The term "Family" applies better to us, I think :)

I noticed here that the Family requests show the same as a Brazil crew request in your ZMC. I don't think I've seen any in my Facebook requests, so these requests may be just through the game. At any rate, make sure you pay attention to what you're clicking on.

There are three titles so far: Godfather/Godmother, Underboss, and Soldier. Only one person can be the Godmother or Godfather currently. It's been pointed out that many families have co-founders, or even a council of group leaders, so I hope to see Family positions be made more flexible in the near future. Underboss would be your group officers. If you try to promote someone to the position of Godfather and you already have that position, the game will advise you that doing so will cause you to step down and promote the selected Family member in your place.

new Family feature begins rollout

A new feature just started rolling out - this one geared toward clans and families.

Under the My Mafia tab, I now have an additional option called Families.

I like this little option over here to preview how your family's tag will appear by your character name.

  • Create a unique Family tag
  • Recruit and select new members for your family
  • Post personalized daily messages for your family
  • Promote members to officers
  • Demote or kick members from your family
  • More leadership perks coming soon...
