Family Chat is now rolling out to a few Families for beta testing. Many of you have been noticing white screens and slow, laggy game play, and this is probably the reason why, particularly if you are in one of the Family groups that is beta testing the feature. You should first notice the blue chat bubble at the top of your Mafia Wars screen.
Clicking on the blue chat bubble for the first time, you should see this chat TOS that you'll need to accept. If you don't see it right away, scroll down. As you can see, in my game the TOS box displayed down at the bottom of my screen for some reason.
After that, you can locate the Family Chat down at the bottom of your Mafia Wars screen.

The little settings icon in the Family Chat pane brings up this window with basic settings options.
You can have multiple side conversations, in addition to the main Family Chat.
Pop-out chat will be coming soon. I look forward to that.
And of course you can minimize or close your chat box.
You can initial side chats by clicking on a player's name in the Family Chat. You'll also have the option to block them entirely.
Initial impressions? I like it.
