In what is another vain attempt to draw players into the Arena, Zynga has nerfed the Daily Point with an Arena Power Up (this started on Valentine's Day). Today's Power Up is a Kamikaze which will help toward the "God of Death" achievements but that one skill point per achievement won't do much to advance your account if Arena Power Ups are now the norm instead of a Daily Point!

Facebook Activity Ticker & Incorrect Mafia Wars Achievements
Most of you hopefully already figured out that the number of achievements you've earned is showing incorrectly on Facebook's "exciting new features" (Zynga's words, not mine). Zynga goes on to say this:
Don't like the Facebook activity ticker? Lots of people don't, and it's easy to remove. READ HOW HERE.
Mafia Wars began to utilize this area of the Live Ticker Box on 09/01/11, and at this time the amount of Achievements that players have earned is not being displayed correctly. This information will take several days in order to populate with the correct numbers, so don't be alarmed if the number of Achievements that you see is incorrect. During the update process the team will also be increasing the number of achievements that can be earned through game-play in the future. Not sure what new achievements have to do with the annoying Facebook ticker, but there you have it.

Space Crates - Liftoff to the Rare Achievement
I was thinking about the topic of Loot Scarcity this morning after reading the thoughts Michael Needham left on our fan page about the items in in the Common row of the Space Crate contents description were all labeled as Uncommon when you look at the item details.
Hmmm... so I went over to the Stuffed Crate content description... sure... you can get consumables and boosts... but you only get 1 item... and that is all I was interested in.
Double hmmm... same items... but equal odds? To get the Crate Achievement you need to snag a Rare item... not Superior... so my logic was that by taking those 2 "better" items out of the mix I would have "better" odds... close to 50:50 of getting something Rare?
So I sucked it up and clicked the 3 crates for 35 RP option... after all... I leveled more than 25 times in the last week... so this is "costing" me < 2 weeks of game play to get this off the list...
Close eyes... line up mouse... woops wrong order...
Open eyes... inhale... click...
w00t !!! 9 achievements left... all of the items are Defense heavy... which is my weak side!
Sooo did I get it from the item scarcity overall... or in that type of crate... dunno... anyone else get this achievement from these crates?
Sure... they will be giftable garbage in 3 months... but the achievement is finished forever :-)!

Flop a Pair of Poker Achievements through Gifts

Have you looked down your achievement list lately... did you think there were 2 Mafia Wars Poker cross promotions... but now you only see one?
The Pocket Rocket achievement is still there... it's just hidden.
We'll let you in on a little secret... you don't have to actually play poker to get either of these achievements!

Both the Pocket Rocket and the Ace Up the Sleeve are giftable... and WishListable...
Thanks to the Mystery Bag hunting of Sisty... and the amazing loot collection of Mr Wizard... I now have both completed...
Wander over to your profile and check your achievement list... all you have to do is "borrow" either of these items from a collector in your family and you'll have 2 more skill points... and 2 less achievements to complete!

Hot Slots achievement
Thank goodness!! I finally got the Hot Slots achievement! That achievement really does take some persistence to get.
Considering people don't get any worthwhile prizes for spinning your slots and the 'prize' pop-ups are annoying to close repeatedly, it's truly a testament to your mafia's loyalty that they've been willing to help you that many times :D I mean come on. How much of a difference do Flaming Shots - or most other boosts, for that matter - really make in my game? These pop-ups are annoying.
The only reason that I bother with playing the slot machines of my friends is to help them get the achievement. There's no other reason remotely motivating about it.
Now that I have this, I won't be touching that stupid slot machine, because there is no reason to do so. Zynga should either remove this feature, or make the prizes worth the hassle in addition to reducing the pop-ups it generates.

Kassina Kunoichi slightly corrected: no mission/achievement
Before, as per a screen shot of Kassina Kunoichi's FAQ I took only a short while ago:
After, all mention of the quest and achievement are removed.
And this question/answer about the achievement was removed entirely.
Q: Is there mastery for defeating the Boss?
A. Yes! Players will receive a mastery item (bronze, silver, or gold) each time they knock out the Boss, however you will not actually finish the Boss until you have reached the gold mastery level. But, don't defeat the Boss on the gold level too quickly, because on 5/12/11, a quest event will begin that will have the final combo so that you can earn the achievement.
After, all mention of the quest and achievement are removed.
And this question/answer about the achievement was removed entirely.
In this forum thread, which I referenced earlier today, Super Moderator Cerulean Master has finally addressed the questions: "There is no mission or achievement associated with this Boss Fight."
So there you have it, no mission/quest, no achievement.
Personally, I'm not upset at this news, I just think it's laughable that the FAQ was released with such a ripe case of Copy/Paste. But we already have TOO MUCH going on in the game right now, and more that we know is coming. The last thing I want is another mission event, or another event of any kind, for that matter.

will there be a quest/mission/achievement for Kassina Kunoichi??
There seems to be some confusion over what's actually to be expected of this Kassina Kunoichi boss fight event.
The FAQ clearly states there's going to be a quest and an achievement, but it's just as clearly only a copy and paste of the Roughhouse Rafael FAQ, so who knows how accurate this really is?
There's already a forum thread wondering about it. In that thread, one person claims that Zynga told him there were no plans for a mission or achievement.
Then there's the image used on Kassina Kunoichi's FAQ ~ kind of looks like an achievement, doesn't it?
It seems that no one's sure!
Maybe Zynga should revise Kassina Kunoichi's FAQ...

new Warlord achievements
The Warlord achievement has been renamed Warlord 1, and 2 additional Warlord achievements have been added. From the wording, I assume there are two more "tiers" of war rewards. That might be nice, because the ones we had were getting pretty tired.
It's worth nothing, with the appearance of these achievements, it seems likely that the war design graphic that we saw earlier may be closer to production than we realized.
New war loot can also be seen, if you click the little question mark seen on your War Declared screen.
From this image we can assume that there will be yet more war achievements to come. Oh boy. I can't say wars have been one of my favorite features.
The timer for how long you have to wait to declare another war has also been reduced.
Thanks for the heads up about the achievements, Hughbert Cumberdale!
