Slot Machine Shutdown (Lucky Stash) 10/15

Slot Machine Shutdown "event"?

The Official Mafia Wars Blog Post about the Slot Machine Shutdown states we will get 2 free spins per day from October 15 to October 21 versus the usual 1 free spin.  The blog then links us through to the Slot Machine Shutdown FAQ over on the Support pages.

The Lead Spitta, weapon [146/96] is the Grand Prize for this "event". Not-so-hot a loot item for most fighters, but after they revamp the slots, maybe the loot will be better.  I guess we'll find out on October 21st.

The Ville Cross Promotion 7/21

Ville-ocity, vehicle, bronze, 160 attack, 125 defense

The other day, when I was having a *lot* of trouble getting Mafia Wars to load a page, there was a brief pop-up announcing a Mafia Wars and the Ville cross promotion. It quickly blipped away and I was unable to grab the image for you, but here is what I *do* have.

This is when I got the Silver level in the Ville (to level 6)

At level 9 I got the Gold Ville-ocity

Now I am going for level 12 to see the next Ville-ocity.
I am liking this a *lot* more than the new Robbing Spree Event

Level 12 reached, reward collected!

The Ville-ocity is now Ruby, vehicle, [190/155]

The Ville, level 12

Xmen: First Class loot drop event later this week

SPOILER ALERT if you prefer to discover all of this for yourself, then you already know too much from this blog title. Read no further. Images will follow, as well as the un-coded question and answer.

After deciphering the code and correctly answering the question, you will be redirected to a top secret page. It's so secret that anyone can find it on the internet here.

This will be reminiscent of the old-style loot drop events. There will be 7 loot items that can be gotten from both fighting and doing jobs. Upon collecting the 7th item, you'll receive an 8th item for mastery.

From doing jobs, we will receive the X-men Crest, Havok's Chest, Azazel's Sword, and the X-men Blackbird. The stats of these items is not yet known, but I imagine they will turn up in the inventory system pretty soon.

From fighting, we will get the X-men Suit, the Cerebro, and Shaw's Submarine.

Upon collecting all 7 items, we'll get the mastery item, Magneto's Helmet. It's mentioned that there will be 4 levels of mastery.

To see the deciphered question and its answer, click here.

Making us decipher a code to see the loot was a neat twist, and it was nice to see it first from Zynga and not loot sniffers. Granted it didn't take us long to figure it out, but still, it was neat :0)

Depending on the loot stats and drop rates, and exactly how the mastery will work, it doesn't sound like a bad event. Although I hope Zynga remembers to slow the eff down with the events; it would be nice to get another break after these two events finish. We've already got the ice mastery event going on, and this by "later this week". That's MORE than enough, Zynga.

Boss Fight Event V2

According to the announcement just made at the Mafia Wars blog, the next boss fight event is going to be a bit different from previous boss fight events. We'll see how it goes, I guess. I actually liked the old boss fights fine - or I would have, if they would have fixed the various bugs that were associated with them.

But then again, it's previously been said that they would be trying new types of events, so I'll check it out and provide my feedback accordingly. The blog says ""  this is the first of a number of exciting fighting features coming to Mafia Wars this quarter!"

So now we'll not be using stamina, but rather a combination of "ammo" items that come from jobs, fights, robbing, and of course one obligatory free gift item. The ammo is basically "boss fight consumables". The Knuckle Punch will drop from fights, Crack of the Bat comes from robbing, Knife Slashes comes from doing jobs. Shotgun Blasts will come by gift requests.

Presumably, clicking on an ammo item does some damage to the boss, and clicking on them in a certain order (or "combo") will inflict greater damage <my supposition at this point>. As we use the items, the game will show a history of what items we've used, to help us figure out the combos. One combo will be given to us via a 'quest' associated with the event, and others we'll just discover as we play. We are free to share those with each other once we find them, of course.

It looks like the boss fights will be timed; in other words, they will regenerate health after a certain period of time. It also sounds like there will be different levels of difficulty, so each time you beat the boss you'll get a mastery item "up to gold mastery".

I didn't see any mention of an event date yet -- "soon", I guess :)

Un.believable.

Un-freaking-believable. This, from the Mafia Wars Blog:

We at Mafia Wars are committed to making all aspects of your gaming experience more enjoyable and have two exciting developments to announce:
One thing we are working to improve, based on your feedback, is the gift event experience, specifically the amount of time it takes to complete these events. We are excited to announce that the next gifting event will require fewer gifts to be sent and received, while continuing to carry the same type of reward for completion. We hope that reducing the gifting in this event will allow you to spend more time in the game itself, leveling up, icing your enemies, and generally enjoying the dangerous streets in the exciting cities of Mafia Wars.

Amount of time it takes to complete the events? That was NEVER an issue, certainly never an issue that PAC presented. WTF? It's the spam and the frequency, which has been said over and over by many different people.

It goes on to say:

Mafia Wars is also excited to announce that your feedback has inspired us to replace the Mini 6 Energy Pack with a full Energy Pack sporting the following features:
  • 125% refill
  • 8 hour refresh
  • Use up to 3 per day!
With more energy than you’d get from shotgunning 7 of your favorite energy drinks, you can enhance your strategy, complete more jobs, and level up faster than your enemies, so go out and put these new Energy Packs to work!
We appreciate your patience and feedback while we work to find the right balance to the Mafia Wars experience.
Yeah, and all those complaints about the mini-energy packs was because Zynga required an inefficient method of spam to get the damn things. I said all along - put in a news feed post, just like the original. They finally get around to "testing" that out, and pull it and replace it with something else? I'm quite doubtful here. Some may argue that you get more energy, but I'm foreseeing a lot more waste.

I can't even be nice about it. This is flat-out stupid, Zynga. It stinks, all of it.
